The Fourth Forum for Young Permafrost Scientists was organized by MPI from 29 June to 12 July 2015. This event commemorated the 200th birthday of Alexander von Middendorff, a Russian naturalist and explorer who pioneered scientific research on permafrost. The Forum included a three-day conference in Yakutsk attended by 45 early career scientists and students from Moscow, Novosibirsk, Tyumen, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, Chernyshevsky, and Seoul. The conference was followed by a field workshop which focused on frost-related forms and processes along federal roads in Central Yakutia, with special emphasis on the causes and dynamics of slope processes at KP 450 of the Lena Federal Road.
